Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a very relaxing and nurturing treatment. You are massaged with warm stones, while other warmed stones are placed underneath you as well as on your abdomen and legs. You will even have your feet wrapped in a towel containing warmed stones to increase the feeling of being pampered.
I use volcanic rocks called basalt stones for hot stone treatments as they hold the heat for a long period of time. I only use naturally shaped stones.
It is estimated that one stroke of a heated basalt stone is the equivalent of 5 strokes of the therapists hand, resulting in a treatment which is 5 times deeper with longer lasting results!
I use a Tisserand preblended aromatherapy oil, if you would prefer I didn't, or you have allergies to certain essential oils or nuts just let me know and I'll use a plain grapeseed oil instead.
During a hot stone massage treatment heated stones will be placed so that while you are laying on your front you will lay on a few stones, with a couple placed onto your abdomen. These stones will stay in place during the massage while I massage your face, neck, arms and front of legs. You will then turn over onto your back, this is when your back and the back of your legs are massaged.
Cold stones may be used during the treatment, but if you would prefer that I didn't you can mention this at the beginning of the treatment.
Cold stones are used to reduce any swelling or fluid build up. Using hot and cold stones during a treatment creates a healing, cleansing and nourishing effect on the body, due to the constant constriction and dilation of the blood vessels, improving the efficiency of the body systems, particularly the immune system. Cold stones are very beneficial in reducing sinus congestion, and to reduce any puffiness or dark circles under the eyes. The cold stones are introduced during the treatment gradually, so that you are not shocked by the transition from hot to cold.
